Upper Gastro Intestinal Surgery

Oesophagus, stomach and small bowel.

Upper endoscopy – this is an investigation that allows us to visualize the mouth, oesophagus, stomach and the first part of the small intestine(duodenum) allowing us to make certain diagnoses and institute appropriate treatment.

Any form of bleeding from:

• Ulcers of the stomach.
• Tears in the oesophagus and stomach.
• Bleeding from venous malformations.
• Masses or tumours.

Help assess difficulty in swallowing food or liquids.

Assess the cause of reflux and heartburn.

Assess the cause of chest pain.

Assess the cause of anaemia.

Assess the cause of upper abdominal pain.

Pre-workup for bariatric/metabolic surgery.

All surgery is done via keyhole or Laparoscopic surgery.

Common surgeries

• Anti-reflux surgery.
• Surgery aimed at resolving motility disorders of the oesophagus.
• Cancer surgery of the oesophagus and stomach.
